Whew! It has been a while since my last post! Ah, well, time flies when you are having fun! Our book trip went well. First stopped off in St. Louis to visit dear old friends. We were saddened by the health challenges of these two saints. Gretel has Alzheimer's. This is bouncy, can't stop talking Gretel struggling to find the words, finding conversation difficult. She was a premier hostess, now finding figuring out which is the coffee pot vs. the tea pot. : - ( And Paul, a tall lanky yet well muscled man was all blimped up from prednizone to fight a rare degenerative nerve disease that has rendered his feet stumps. With all those challenges, their spirits were as lively and quick as ever. We shared stories and laughter. All four of us felt loved and cared for as a result of that visit! I am so glad we stopped.
Then on to Tate Publishing to do the voicing of the audio book. That went well. They sent it to me all edited for a last check. I only found 3 oopses--not bad! We were able to meet a number of people who worked on the book. The illustrator gave me the very first sketch of Sassy Pants--that was cool. I am going to send it back to her so she can sign it for me. Then I will frame it. An artist friend says to get it signed--it will be worth something some day! I hope so. Met my marketing rep who is a bouncy blue-eyed blonde who sounds like a 12 year old!
From Oklahoma City we boogied on to Albuquerque. We had a free day to just visit with our host family. They were great--an entire family of highly sensitive people. David said the miracle is that they are all still talking to each other and genuinely loving each other! We nearly talked each other's ear off. They had 3 teenaged boys who are involved with a Christian youth group organized around survival. They shoot muzzle loader rifles and start fires with flint! Their graduation will consist of being dropped off somewhere in the desert and manage to survive and find their way back! They took David out in the back yard and taught him how to throw a tomahawk! He did himself proud. The only road mishap was running over one of those construction cones. It stood right back up and popped David's mirror, knocking the guts out. It just hung there by the wires. We duct taped it and kept going!
Bridgett, our hostess, put on a tea for her homeschool group. She homeschools all five of her kids! I gave my schpeel about Sassy Pants and then opened it for questions. Some of the moms brought their kids so we talked about the writing process. One gal came just to ask questions about publishing. The next day was a book signing in the local Christian bookstore. The manager was so afraid that no one would come and I would be devastated but that didn't happen! Both groups were rather small, but the sales were good for the size of the groups and conversations were good. I think that there will be future sales from the contacts that were made. When all was said and done we have come to feel that the real reason God arranged that trip was to minister to that family. If He had asked us to just go out there to minister to one family we would have pointed out how many miles that was and how many days off work, the cost of gas, etc. but concluded, nevertheless, if you want us to drive that far for just one family, well, okay! But, oh, we would have questioned whether we were really hearing God or our wild imagination! So God just distracted us with the books and got us out there to do His agenda anyway! Living the Jesus life is fun! Yesterday I finally finished all the bookkeeping details and stuffed envelopes to send copies to people who asked for them--all ready to go to the P.O. Yeah!
David is back into his cancer research. We have come upon a couple new, very interesting research threads which at this point look promising. One is in regard to a deficiencey of iodine. Iodine has proven to be effective in treating cancer and hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's disease). I was first diagnosied with Hashimoto's back in 1968 and have treated for it off and on. They have found it to be helpful in treating cancer as well as thyroid problems.
Our girls are going to come to be with me for David's surgery. Meilee will come a couple days early and get the lay of the land so she can drive us to the hospital (David has to report in at 6:00 a.m.!), then she can push me around the hospital. We can stay until we know he is okay and then she can tuck me in and go pick up Michelle who arrives about 10:30 on the 30th. Meilee will stay a couple more days so they can get in some visiting together, but Michelle will stay until the 10th of Oct. That way if David needs a steady arm there is someone more sturdy than I to lean on! I am resting much easier knowing they are going to be here. I was not looking forward to putting together a tag team of friends for surgery day.
Well, there is probably something I missed but that will give me a reason to make another post! It's late, g'nite all!

Sounds like it was a really great trip.
Am so glad Meilee and Michelle will be able to spend some time in Grand Rapids - both to enjoy family and help out. That's really sweet of them.
Good to know your Kiddo's are coming to help you. That's a nice role reversal, when children help their parents.
